New Doctor Who Promo Image

Today the BBC released this teaser image. It features Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, alongside three monsters - a Weeping Angel, a Dalek and a Smiler.

What do you think?

Personally, I think the image is reminiscent of children's fantasy films such as Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, which is a bit of a shame. Still I think the trailer has fantastic lighting and shows real potential, so perhaps the marketing won't reflect the finished product, but will instead be used to capture the imagination of the younger generation.

It's worth remembering that kids who were 7 when the Ninth Doctor first me Rose, are now 12...



A new trailer will begin airing on the BBC on Saturday. It will also be added to www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho. Hopefully this one will include the beginning air date for new series.

Doctor Who returns with 'The Eleventh Hour'

When Matt Smith begins as the Doctor in Spring, his first episode will be an hour long reports Radio Free Skaro.



'The Eleventh Hour' written by new showrunner Steven Moffat will introduce us to "the enigmatic Amy Pond (Karen Gillan)".

"Together they explore 16th century Venice, France during the 1890s and the United Kingdom in the far future, now an entire nation floating in space.
As always, wherever the Doctor goes, his oldest enemies are never far behind – the Daleks are hatching a new master plan from the heart of war-torn London in the 1940s. But they are not the only strange creatures the Doctor and Amy must face – there are also alien vampires. humanoid reptiles, old enemies such as the Weeping Angels, a Star Whale, and a silent menace that follows Amy and the Doctor around wherever they go…"

The new series airdate has not been announced yet.

Other recent Doctor Who news includes the confirmation that Neil Gaiman is writing an episode for the second series of the Eleventh Doctor. Gaiman revealed the news in a special message to the SFX Awards and the SFX Weekender. Gaiman won the Best Comic Award for Batman: Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader? The writer had this to say:

"Over the years SFX, and its readers and their votes in the polls, have always been very kind to me. I thought I’d return the favour with what used to be called, in journalistic circles when I was a boy, a scoop.

As anyone who’s read my blog knows, I’m a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching -- from behind the sofa -- when I was three. And while I know it’s cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, it’s quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called “The House of Nothing”. But it definitely isn’t called that any more.

Countdown. You’ve got about 14 months."
