Big Game Hunting Live - Colt Express and Takenoko

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place every month.

(Please note that May's Big Game Hunting Live has been pushed back a week to accommodate for Free Comic Book Day at the beginning of the month, and will be taking place on the 16th May.)

Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring two excellent games: Colt Express and Takenoko!

In Colt Express, you play as a bandit, determined to become the richest bandit the Old West has ever seen. But you're not the only one who's decided this here train is yours to plunder, and you'll be competing against your fellow bandits to get the most loot! This game features a 3D train which allows players to run on the roof, move through the cars, and punch or shoot their way through opponents in an attempt to gather the most wealth from the passengers. Players have to watch out for the Marshal, though, who will make that task even more challenging!

In Takenoko, players are caring for the bamboo garden of the Japanese emperor. Not only must they ensure that the three types of bamboo continue to grow by irrigating and cultivating plots of land, but they must also look after the sacred panda who inhabits the garden. The panda will help itself to its share of bamboo, so it's up to the players to ensure the panda's appetite is steered in the right direction.

During the day, we will be running open demos from 10:30am to 5pm for both games. Feel free to drop in at any time, we're happy to teach you how to play!

See you Saturday 16th May!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off Colt Express and Takenoko.

Rae thinks there are too many board games and not enough time to play them all!

TableTop Day 2015 [Gather Your] Party! Exhibition Games

by Rae

At this Saturday's TableTop Day evening event at 2PIGS, we will be running three exhibition games (in addition to all the other awesome games available). These are Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Trek: Attack Wing, and D&D Attack Wing!

Star Trek: Attack Wing – Borg vs. DS9
In this oversized mission, players will be taking sides with either the Oversized Borg Cube or the DS9 to see which team will be the last one standing! Players are asked to bring a 60-point fleet of one or two ships following the standard fleet-building rules. Both the Borg and DS9 will be balanced against the opposing number of players to ensure an even match. The winner (by player ballot) will win a Tactical Cube 001!

D&D Attack Wing – Tiamat, Dragon Queen
Players will be faced with their greatest challenge yet – Tiamat herself. Bring a 80-point legion following standard legion-building rules to team up against the queen of dragons! But be warned, Tiamat may not be alone, and her own army could be more than one bargains for. The winner (by player ballot) will win an Young Bronze Dragon!*

Star Wars: X-Wing – A Podrace in Space
In this game variant, players will not be duking it out over a star map; instead they will be racing around our Pitchcar track in a Deathrace-style showdown! Players will complete one of three laps of the course, picking up random one-use secondary weapons as they move over bonus tokens on the track. The first one to the finish line will win a Han Solo alternate art promo card!

Players are invited to bring a single fighter ship and manoeuvre dial. All ships must have a small base, and cost no more than 30 points. No upgrades are allowed, and all primary weapons, boost, and cloaking abilities will be disabled. Ships with shields will not be able to perform any manoeuvre higher than a “4”. Please bring any required tokens and manoeuvre templates with you.

Doors for [Gather Your] Party! open at 6:30pm, with games set to start at 7pm. Tickets cost £3 in advance, or £5 on the door. See you there!

* The prize for D&D Attack Wing was previously listed as an Aarakocra legion. This was in error, and has now been amended.

Big Game Hunting Live - three tournaments, one weekend!

by Ben Fardon

This weekend sees Proud Lion play host to not one, not two, but three different organised play/tournament events, and we have tickets still available for all of them!

On Saturday 28th February from 1:30-5pm we're hosting our second Marvel Dice Masters tournament! This one's a Rainbow Draft where your ticket price includes 12 Uncanny X-Men Dice Masters boosters packs (RRP £12.00), and you and your fellow players will open, select, pass and assemble your team from the cards and dice you open on the day. A great level playing field for both new and experienced Dice Masters players.

Each player will receive a Magneto card as a Participation Prize, with further prizes for the winners. Tickets cost £12.50 each.

Thirty minutes and one quick rearrange of the store later and we'll be rolling up our sleeves for our latest Star Trek Attack Wing OP and our first Open Format STAW event. This OP runs on Saturday 28th February from 5:30-11:30pm.

The Open Format means ANYTHING GOES (provided it fits within the scenario build cost). We're even expecting to see a few of these monstrosities make it to the table!

This is a constructed tournament and each player will receive a blind booster (RRP £12.00), along with the Advanced Targeting Systems Resource Card, plus further prizes for the winners. Tickets cost £15.00 each.

Then on Sunday we round out our big weekend of gaming with our first Netrunner LCG Draft Touurnament, Cyber War! Running on Sunday 1st March from 11am-8pm, this sees players drawing cards from three special Cyber War products produced by Fantasy Flight Games to allow players a break from the usual constructed LCG play, again creating a level playing field for new and experienced players alike.

Each player will receive one Draft Starter Pack (11 cards and 2 IDs provides a fixed core of essential cards for both Corp and Runner), one Corp Draft Pack (a selection of 40 randomized Corp cards) and one Runner Draft Pack (a selection of 40 randomized Runner cards). The cost of these items are included in the ticket price.

The overall winning player will receive £25 worth of Proud Lion vouchers, enough to cover the cost of the next two Netrunner Data Packs (and still have change for a comic book!). There will be additional prizes of £10 worth of Proud Lion vouchers for runners up, TBC. Tickets cost £20.00 each.

We do our best to make these events fun and lighthearted; we want to enjoy running them and support the local gaming community in lots of different ways, with Organised Play being a key part of that.

I hope to see some of you this weekend and good luck to all of our players!

Ben Fardon is itching to throw down with a D&D Attack Wing 3BG build, but there just isn't enough hours in the day right now!

Big Game Hunting Live - XCOM: The Board Game

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring XCOM: The Board Game!

XCOM: The Board Game is inspired by the video game franchise, XCOM. The developers have done everything they can to bring the best elements of the video games to their tabletop counterpart. The result is a fast-paced strategy game that sees players working together to stop an alien invasion. Unlike other board games, however, this one features a digital app, required to play the game. While this initially sounds a bit strange, playing the game with an iOS or Android device (and soon through the website as well) actually makes the game feel that much more intense, challenging, and fun. It also adds functionality to the game that you could not imitate with tokens or cards, making the app a core element of the gameplay rather than just a gimmick.

What makes this cooperative game so immersive is that every player has a particular role to play, with unique responsibilities that will be impacted by everyone else. For example, one player's role leaves them in charge of funding, but everyone else has the ability to spend those funds for their own actions! The first phase of every round is timed – each player has a certain amount of time to complete a particular task. The app keeps track of the time you've used – and if you run out. The second phase resolves all the actions that took place in the first, and determines the effects on the next round. Like most cooperative games, there are multiple ways to lose, so staying alive to see the final round is crucial.

During the day, we will be running open demos from 11am to 5pm. The app will be managed by the demo runner, so there's no need to bring any devices with you. Feel free to drop in at any time, we're happy to teach you how to play! See you Saturday 14th February! (Nothing says love like saving the world from aliens together, right?)

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off XCOM: The Board Game. You can find the Facebook event here!

Rae tried to solo this one without knowing all the rules first. It ended quickly.

Big Game Hunting Live - D&D Attack Wing

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring the brand-new D&D Attack Wing!

D&D Attack Wing is based on the popular Flight Path system used in Star Trek: Attack Wing and Star Wars: X-Wing. The difference here is that players will be flying dragons instead of spaceships! Players use numbered templates to move their models across a large play area, fighting to take down their opponents first.

The starter set we'll be using on the day contains three dragons: blue, red, and copper, each with their own unique abilities and cards to cater to multiple play styles. Future expansion releases will include more dragons as well as a series of ground troops to add more options to your legion building. For more details, check out the preview here.

During the day, we will have free play available from 10:30 until 5pm. We will have one table specifically for new players, where a demo of the starter kit will be available for people to learn how to play. We will also have a second table set up for people who already have the set and want to bring their dragons and play each other, either to test out legion builds or try out some of the included adventures!

See you Saturday 8th November!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off all D&D Attack Wing products.

Rae can't wait to start adventures and campaigns for this game!

Big Game Hunting Live - Shadowrun: Crossfire and Cash 'N Guns

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring two completely different games - the co-operative deck-building cyberpunk game, Shadowrun: Crossifre and the competitive party game, Cash N Guns.

Shadowrun: Crossfire is a deck-building game in one of the most popular game settings of all time. Crossing cyberpunk with fantasy and plunging players into a world dominated by ruthless megacorporations, Crossfire gives players the chance to dive into the world’s shadows to see if they can survive. They’ll have weapons, spells, contacts, and gear to help them out, and they’re going to need those resources. If they play their cards right, though, they’ll do more than survive—they’ll become legends.

In Cash ‘n Guns, players will point foam pistols at each other and try to intimidate their opponents into letting them have the largest share of the loot from the big heist. Bullets speak louder than words and the bravest crooks enjoy the most money – but only if they live long enough to spend it!

During the day, there will be two main gaming sessions, from 10:30am until 1:30pm, and 2:00pm until 5pm. Both games will be available to try, though it's worth noting that Cash N Guns requires at least 4 players. Whether you're a seasoned player or need to brush up on the rules, drop in and have a game with us! If you've never played before and would like to give it a try, feel free to pop in, and we'll show you the ropes.

See you Saturday 13th September!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off either of the games featured on the day. If an item is not in stock, we may be able to order it for you on request.

Rae can't wait for the weekend!

BGHL Games Night: Calling All Game Designers!

by Rae

As board game enthusiasts, it has come to our attention that we have a fair few designers in the area!

We've spoken to several people who have games they've created, but are in need of testers to play through them. On Saturday 13th September, we want to bring together game designers and potential beta testers. Creators are invited to bring their designs for open play at our Big Game Hunting Live Games Night, hosted at the Cheltenham Boston Tea Party.

To make this event possible, we do ask a few things of designers. If you have a game beta you would like to bring, please send a direct email to shop@proudlion.co.uk and provide us with the working title of your game and a brief description of the gameplay. Initial prototypes are perfectly acceptable, but the game must be fully playable! Please make sure you have tested your game yourself before the night.

We also have one thing to ask of test players. Any player testing a beta game will be asked to sign a simple non-disclosure agreement (NDA). This will be in place purely to prevent details of the game designs from becoming publicised and to protect the designers' creations. Please note this only applies to people involved in testing, and there is no obligation to be involved!

Feel free to email us directly at shop@proudlion.co.uk if you have any questions.

Rae is looking forward to seeing the games created by local minds!

Big Game Hunting Live - Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long.

This month we're featuring Dungeons & Dragons, 5th Edition!

Dungeons & Dragons is the classic role playing game that will be familiar to many. You choose a character, you explore dungeons, you fight monsters and pick up some pretty epic loot along the way. That's exactly what we're inviting players to do this Saturday, with a day-long session of the newest edition of D&D.

During the adventures, we will be ensuring that players get a taste of dungeon crawling and monster battling. We also will encourage players in general roleplay. Most of the fun of this game style is in deciding how your character would react in a given situation, and making the most of it to enjoy the story being told. Of course, the DM (Dungeon Master) will be there to guide you – and sometimes to throw in a random element just to keep things interesting!

On the day, all players are welcome, whether you've been playing D&D since it came into existence or you've never seen it before! Pre-generated characters will be provided and adventures will be compact, allowing for an easy drop-in, drop-out day for players. (Please do not bring your own characters for this particular event.)

The play session will start just after 11am and will run until closing time at 5pm, with a short break  midway through the day.

See you Saturday 9th August!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off any D&D product. Cannot be used with any other offer.

Rae is possibly enjoying being a DM more than she wants to admit.

Big Game Hunting Live - Star Trek: Attack Wing & Star Wars: X-Wing

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring Star Trek: Attack Wing and Star Wars: X-Wing!

Star Trek: Attack Wing takes its inspiration directly from the classic TV show and enables players to fly their favourite ships through the galaxy – while taking down their enemies, of course. The beginner's pack includes a starter set of cards and ships from the Federation (Enterprise), the Klingons, and the Romulans, allowing for up to three players right out of the box.

Similarly, the beginner's box for Star Wars: X-Wing features two of the most popular ships from the franchise: TIE fighters and X-Wings. Two players can battle it out with well known characters and their allies, such as Luke Skywalker and R2-D2, at the helm.

Both games have a multitude of expansions and additional pieces to add to your playing experience. Star Trek fans will find the USS Defiant, USS Voyager, and the Borg Sphere and Tactical Cube included in an array of new options. Star Wars expansions feature the B-Wing, Slave-1, and Millennium Falcon, again only a fraction of the choice of ships now available.

During the day, there will be two main gaming sessions, from 10:30am until 1:30pm, and 2:00pm until 5pm. Star Wars will be played in the morning, and Star Trek will be played in the afternoon. Both games will be played with the starter sets, to allow new players to get to grips with the Attack Wing system. Feel free to drop in at any time, we're happy to teach you how to play!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off any Star Trek: Attack Wing or Star Wars: X-Wing product. Items not available on the day can be ordered in by request.

Rae finally beat the Borg!

Big Game Hunting Live - Cockroach Poker, Fluxx, Loonacy and Rat-A-Tat Cat

by Rae

It's time for Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play featured games all day long. This month we're featuring several small card games. These are games that are easy to learn, quick to play, and a lot of fun!

Cockroach Poker has very little to do with poker. In fact, the only real similarity is in bluffing your way through it! Instead of your standard queens and aces, you'll find yourself passing around cards featuring stink bugs, scorpions, rats, spiders, and all other manner of creepy crawlies. Try not to end up with too many in front of you – catch four of the same critter and the game is up!

Rat-A-Tat Cat has players scrambling for the lowest score by swapping their rat cards for cat cards. It's a bit tricky, considering you don't know what your own cards are until you've decided to swap them! Try to remember your opponents' scores, and be the first to call out “rat a tat cat”!

Fluxx is an ever-changing card game where the only rule is to follow the cards – which, naturally, are constantly changing all the rules, from the numbers of card you can hold to how you win the game! Hang on to your Keepers to achieve the current Goal before someone changes it again!

Loonacy is a brilliantly simple game where the only thing you need to do is match up the pictures on the cards. Of course, since there are no turns, you also have to be the quickest to get rid of all the cards in your hand!

During the day, there will be two main gaming sessions, from 10:30am until 1:30pm, and 2:00pm until 5pm. All of the above games will be available to try. Whether you're a seasoned player or need to brush up on the rules, drop in and have a game with us! If you've never played before and would like to give it a try, feel free to pop in, and we'll show you the ropes.

See you Saturday 14th June!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off any small card game featured on the day. If an item is not in stock, we may be able to order it for you on request.

Rae can't wait to get her hands on the new Egyptian-themed card game coming out this week!

Big Game Hunting Live - Pandemic

by Rae

It's time for another session of Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month. On Saturday 8th March, we'll be playing Pandemic!

Pandemic is a cooperative strategy game which sees players pitted against four plagues ravaging the planet. You and your team members each take on a specialist position in order to slow the spread of infection, research cures, and – if you're lucky – eradicate the diseases before they wipe out the world population.

This game was featured on Wil Wheaton's TableTop. For an entertaining breakdown of the gameplay, watch this.

During the day, there will be two main gaming sessions, from 11am until 1:30pm, and 2:30pm until 5pm (this is a slight change from previous BGH:L, so please don't get caught out).

Whether you're a seasoned player or need to brush up on the rules, drop in and have a game with us! If you've never played before and would like to give it a try, feel free to pop in, and we'll show you the ropes.

On the day, we will be playing with the original version of the game, which does not include the two new playable characters created for the 2013 edition.

All participants will receive a voucher that entitle them to 10% off Pandemic and any of its expansions. Please note that should the base game or expansions go out of stock, they can be ordered in by request.

Rae has spent far too much time watching cats play in paper bags.

Big Game Hunting Live - Small World

by Rae

Next month sees the return of Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month. On Saturday 8th February, we'll be playing an old favourite, Small World!

In Small World, your goal is to capture as many territories as possible in a world that is most definitely too small for everyone to get along! Of course, you muse also defend those you already possess from other conquerors. To do this you will need to use one of the many fantasy races, paired with one of several special abilities. Of course, one race alone cannot conquer an entire world, and sooner or later you will have to watch your chosen race fall into decline. Don't worry though – you can always choose a new race and start conquering again!

For a full review of this game, please check it out here. This game was also featured on Wil Wheaton's TableTop.

During the day, there will be two main gaming sessions, from 10:30am until 1pm, and 2pm until 5pm. Whether you're a seasoned player or need to brush up on the rules, drop in and have a game with us! If you've never played before and would like to give it a try, feel free to pop in, and we'll show you the ropes.

We will be playing with the base game, as well as expansions. As an added bonus, we now have the official six-player board! This will be in store on the day, and will be used should we have enough players to do so!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitle them to 10% off Small World and any of its expansions. Please note that expansions are currently only available to order.

Rae has got Super Mario on the brain.

Big Game Hunting Live - Eldritch Horror

This weekend we will once again be hosting Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of each month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month.

This month we'll be playing Eldritch Horror, a new horror survival game from Fantasy Flight. In this cooperative game, players – or investigators, as they're called – can travel the globe, so long as they make sure they close the gates to hell, battle off the creatures pouring through those gates, and stop one of the four Ancient Ones from awakening and destroying the world.

This game will feature a great deal of familiar mechanics to anyone who has played Arkham Horror, though that's certainly not a necessity to play! For a full review of this game, check out last week's post on the game.

Due to the nature of this game, we will be playing in two main sessions – morning (10:30am – 1:00pm) and afternoon (2pm – 5pm). The game requires a bit of explaining to get started, so we recommend you turn up as close to the start time as possible.

Rae loves any excuse to visit the Pyramids in this game

Big Game Hunting - Eldritch Horror in review

This month sees the release of Eldritch Horror, a fantastic cooperative board game from Fantasy Flight Games. In this game, you can travel the world, so long as you remember to close the gates of hell and stop otherworldly creatures from pouring through along the way. Oh, and don’t forget about the deadly Ancient One, ready to awaken and destroy the world!

Eldritch Horror is, at its heart, a horror survival game. It allows for anywhere between 1 and 8 players, with the difficulty escalating in relation to the number of people playing. Each player chooses a character from the pool of “investigators” provided, and each investigator has their own unique abilities. These abilities can prove to be crucial during gameplay, so it pays off to try for a strategic combination of skills that complement each other. It’s a refreshing change to have a game that caters to single players as well as larger groups - far too many times we’ve sat down to play a game only to discover we’re unable to play with only one or two people, and that's not the case here.

Every game features one of four Ancient Ones, each of which comes with their own deck of Mythos cards. Mythos cards are essentially events that take place during the game, and can help just as often as hinder. They also each have their own set of mystery cards, which players must resolve in order to win the game. The mystery cards have varying goals, each of which are specific to the Ancient One they accompany, making each game a unique experience - and also increasing the importance of having a group strategy.

Over the course of the game, you’ll struggle against monsters coming through the various gates opening across the world. This is where travelling becomes a highlight, as often you must travel to a particular world location in order to gain clues, close gates, or solve mysteries. It also is where games with less players tend to suffer slightly. At the most, you can only move along three paths in a single phase, and then only when you have picked up enough travel tickets to do so. The board does wrap-around, allowing for players to get from one side of the board to the other quickly, but if the location you need is four or five paths away, the chances of you getting there quickly are small. Working in tandem with other investigators who may be nearer allows players to achieve goals with less travelling required.

Despite being surrounded by elements and monsters who are determined to make you fail, there are plenty of objects that can be acquired to support you. Every investigator has a starting set of bonuses, which may include weapons, allies, or spells. These can be gained during gameplay, and can also be traded with other investigators who may be able to use them to their full advantage. To complement these (or perhaps just to make winning an even bigger challenge), the game includes Condition cards. Conditions can be beneficial or detrimental - for example, a Blessed condition makes it easier to succeed on dice rolls, while a Back Injury comes with the possibility of dropping items from your hands should a reckoning come along.

What’s a reckoning, you ask? It’s probably the most evil symbol in the whole of the game. A reckoning is essentially an event which makes bad things happen. If this deadly little symbol pops up on a Mythos card, you can all but guarantee the coming of bad stuff. Monsters, conditions, items, and even the Ancient One often carry extra dangers that are activated when a reckoning occurs. These can be minor, but can also be devastating, so removing monsters or condition cards with these symbols can at times prove to be essential to moving forward.

All in all, Eldritch Horror is another Lovecraft-themed adventure that proves to be completely engaging and a welcome challenge, being just difficult enough to make winning feel like a real accomplishment, but not an easy ride. I have no doubt this game will have a good number of play throughs in the coming weeks in our household!

If you want to give this game a try, pop in to Proud Lion on Saturday, 14th December, where we will be running an Eldritch Horror demo! Stay tuned for more details!

Big Game Hunting Live - Eldritch Horror

STOP PRESS! Big Game Hunting Live now takes place on the second Saturday of each month!

It's not long now until the return of Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the second Saturday of each month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month.

On Saturday 14th December, we will be playing Eldritch Horror! This new globetrotting Lovecraftian board game from Fantasy Flight is "a cooperative game of terror and adventure in which one to eight players take the roles of investigators working to solve mysteries, gather clues, and protect the world from an Ancient One - an elder being intent on destroying our world. Each Ancient One comes with its own unique decks of Mystery and Research cards, which draw you deeper into the lore surrounding each loathsome creature."

This is a rare chance to play a new game ahead of it's official release which follows later in December. Here's a quick look at what's in store for the would-be heroes:

We'll be able to show you the ropes and get you up to speed on how to play! Just pop on down, no sign-up is required, though participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We'll be having open game sessions at 10:30 – 1pm, and 2 – 5pm.

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off Eldritch Horror when it's released.

Big Game Hunting Live - Munchkin

Next weekend sees the return of Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the first Saturday of each month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month.

On Saturday 2nd November, we will be playing Munchkin! This dungeon-crawling card game takes a swipe at every RPG trope you've ever heard of. Take on monsters, wield powerful magic items, collect levels and treasures - and try to survive the “help” of your fellow players! This game was featured on season 1 of TableTop.

One of the best things about this game is that in comes in so many flavours: zombies, cthulhu, vampires, sci fi, super heroes, you name it! There are several complete themed Munchkin sets, and many of those have booster and expansion packs that can be added to the decks.

Even better, there are also booster packs which can be very easily added to any Munchkin set you already have, such as the newly released Dragons and Tricky Treats booster packs.

If you've never played before, or are a bit rusty on the rules, feel free to come and jump in! We'll happily teach you how to play. We'll be having open game sessions at 10:30 – 1pm, and 2 – 5pm. There will be a few different Munchkin theme sets available to try.

As a final note, all games will be played to a timer. Not only does this enable us to get more games in and get more people playing, but we've discovered it makes the game far more interesting!

All participants will receive a voucher that entitles them to 10% off all Munchkin products in stock and Proud Lion will be receiving a comprehensive restock of a variety Munchkin game products before this event.

(Additional Munchkin products can be ordered in, but the voucher will not apply to these items at this time.)

Big Game Hunting Live - Castellan

We're gearing up for another Big Game Hunting Live! This is a monthly gaming event that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Players will get a chance to learn and play a different game every month. On Saturday 5th October, we will be playing Castellan!

This brilliant little game was recently released by Steve Jackson Games. Players take turns building a castle using walls and towers. Each enclosed space, or courtyard, can be claimed by the players, thus earning them points. The element of strategy, however, is that you can only build onto the castle using pieces determined by the cards you play at the beginning of your turn. The player who earns the most points at the end of the game is the winner!

Similar to last month's event, we will be hosting two main game sessions, from 10:30 to 1pm, and 2pm to 5pm. Feel free to come along at any point during the sessions and join in. Due to the nature of this game, we are only be able to support two players at once - but the game plays very quickly, so we'll make sure to rotate players frequently so everybody gets a chance!

As a side note, this will be the last time Big Game Hunting Live is able to hold a morning session for the foreseeable future. Due to a significant change in my work schedules, after the October event we will only host an afternoon session from 2pm to 5pm.

All participants will receive a voucher that entitle them to 10% off Castellan. As Proud Lion is only a small store, we only hold a limited stock so you may have to backorder your copy if we sell out on the day.

Rae  is looking forward to a week of all things gaming!

Big Game Hunting Live - Fluxx the Board Game

On Saturday, 7th of September, Proud Lion will once again be hosting their monthly gaming event, Big Game Hunting Live! In a change to our previous schedule, we will be playing the newly released Fluxx: The Board Game!

This brand new board game is inspired by the brilliant series of card games by the same name. In these games, the cards are constantly changing the rules, and even how you win the game.

The board game expands on this, by adding a board made up of tiles whose positions will regularly alter too!

As far as the rules go, many of them will be very familiar to Fluxx players: drawing cards, playing cards, hand limits, and so on all make their appearances. The key change to the gameplay comes down to winning the game. Rather than matching a single goal in play, your mission is to achieve several goals, and be the first to collect the number of goals required to win.

Check the video below if you'd like to watch a demonstration, or check out the rules by reading them here.

In response to feedback from previous BGHL events, the timetable for games will be changed. Rather than having set game times, we will be running open gaming between 10:30am and 2pm, and again between 3pm and 5pm. Feel free to show up during either session to learn, watch, or play.

And don't forget, anyone who participates on the day will get a voucher to purchase Fluxx: The Board Game at 10% off! See you all next week!

Rae is so happy to be back home with her family. And her games.
